They are found mainly in damp meadows in the area of alder stands or in alder swamp forests. The development time of the larvae probably lasts several years; they are polyphagous and develop primarily in the wood of alder (Alnus) and occationally in the rotten wood of birch (Betula), oak (Quercus), common hazel (Corylus avellana), willow (Salix) and linden (Tilia), more rarely from pine (Pinus) or hornbeam (Carpinus betulus).
