Similar to Anasimyia lunulata.
Body length 8-11 mm. Eyes in both sexes separated by the forehead. The pronotum is black with horizontal light stripes. On the black tergites, slightly bent, interrupted pale yellow bands. Tergite 4 in the male with a black anterior edge. Tergite 5 in the female covered with light hairs. Habitat: richly vegetated shores of water reservoirs. Adults feed on nectar and pollen; the larvae develop in submerged plant parts, living and dead. Adults can be found from May to August.
