It is found in Europe. This species flies in June and July. Its normal flight time is at night, when it is attracted to light. By day it rests head-down on grass stalks and is easily disturbed. The larvae feed on the stems of various types of grasses, usually at the base.
On the yellowish-white background of the forewings there are numerous brown streaks of various lengths. In the rear part there is an arched, silvery transverse band; just behind it there is a much shorter band of the same color, at the rear angle of the wing.
