  • spectacle
  • Silbergraue Nessel-Höckereule

This moth derives its English name from the raised tufts of scales on the thorax, which resembles a pair of spectacles when viewed from the front. The caterpillar lives on nettle (Urtica dioica). Abrostola tripartita inhabits forest edges with the larval host plant, woodlands, riparian areas and marsh edges. More rarely, the moth is also found in gardens and parks. It prefers rather damp, shady and cool habitats.
