It is found in most of the Palearctic realm, from Ireland in the west to Mongolia and Siberia in the east and south to the Mediterranean and North Africa. The larvae feed mainly Fabaceae, including, Trifolium (especially T. pratense), Medicago sativa, Lotus corniculatus, Vicia cracca, Lathyrus pratensis, Hippocrepis comosa and also Viola.
