Arge fuscipes · pjūklelis

  • Dark Birch Fusehorn
  • meijumailapistiäinen

One of several Arge species with a dark, slightly metallic body and fore wings that have a dark blotch below the stigma. Distinguished from the others by the entirely dark costa, subcosta and stigma. The female legs are blackish but with the hind tibiae brownish. Males usually have entirely dark legs. The body has subtle metallic blue reflections. This is a relatively large and long-winged Arge.

The caterpillar-like larvae are green with lots of tiny black spots and a pair of pale yellow stripes running down the back. The head capsule is orange-brown. They feed on the foliage of birches and willows.
