This species can be found in most of Europe, the Caucasus, Libya and Palestine. These moths mainly inhabit woodland edges, hedgerows and old lanes. The larvae feed on Chaerophyllum species.

Front wings with a distinct brown-white-black pattern. On the thorax a collar of light scales. Caterpillar green or greenish-yellow with three darker than the background streaks along the body, of which the dorsal one is torn into a series of oval spots.
