Body wide, dorsoventrally flattened, black or dark brown with a distinct rusty tint, especially on the lateral edges of the pronotum and covers. The head is clearly narrower than the pronotum. The elytra are clearly longitudinally striated. Live in forests. Adults mycophagous, xylophagous larvae feed in the wood of coniferous and deciduous trees.
Peltis is a genus of beetles found in North America and Europe, and the sole extant member of the family Peltidae (shield beetles), formerly included in the Trogossitidae.
