From "Family Carabidae, Key to genus after Lindroth (1974) adapted by Mike Hackston (2013)": Larger species, length 7-9 mm. Pronotum more broadened towards the front. Mesepisterna pale. Scutellum and the base of the elytra pale. Pronotum and background colour of elytra bright reddish brown, each elytron with two large black spots, one at the tip and the other just behind middle these are often fused along the side margin. Middle of antennae and sometimes palps darkened. Legs reddish brown. Elytra strongly iridescent. Microscopic sculpture on the centre of the pronotum consisting of transverse meshes.
