It is found in North America, Europe, Turkey, Caucasus, a range from Russia (European to Far East), Central Asia, China, and Japan. It is usually associated with marshy places and near to water where it hunts along the banks and on the water's surface thanks to water repellent hairs on its legs.
Prosoma with white median stripe and bright median band, including a V-shaped pattern in anterior half, laterally with yellowish stripe covered with white hairs. Legs yellow-brown to greenish. Opisthosoma brownish, bright cardiac mark followed by white spots, posteriorly with tufts of white-bluish hairs. Body length male: 4-8.2 mm, female: 4.5-9 mm. Piratula hygrophila is similar and found in similar habitats.
