Distribution: in the Palearctic and occurs from the Mediterranean region to the south of Scandinavia and east to China and Japan. Sandy habitats are colonized, where the bugs are buried under plants and often just below the surface. They can also be seen walking around on sandy paths. They are feeding on sap from the root phloem of plants. Polyfagous on Achillea millefolium, Artemisia campestris, Calluna, Corynephorus canescens, Gypsophila fastigiata, Oenothera biennis etc.
The bugs are 4.1 to 5.2 mm long and are glossy black with brownish dark maroon tint, the body usually slightly lighter fringed. The membranes of the hemielytra are yellowish in color, the legs are reddish-brown. On the front of the head there are a pair of bigger and 8-10 shorter spines and some bristles. Lateral edges of the pronotum are lined with 20-30 protruding bristles. Scutellum extending beyond the middle of the abdomen.
Microporus nigrita is similar to Byrsinus flavicornis which is smaller and number of bristles on the sides of the pronotum is over 40.
