Pollenia vagabunda

  • Vagabond Clusterfly

det. Erikas Lutovinovas

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollenia_vagabunda It is widespread in Europe and can be found on carrion, although not associated with any specific stages of decomposition. P. vagabunda has also been found in North America, first being discovered there in 1958, with a range from the east coast to British Columbia.

This is a slim, long-legged, long-winged clusterfly with a dark median stripe at the front of the thorax (more obvious in males). The shifting markings of the tergites also differ from other species in that an almost complete dark band occurs across the bases of tergites 3-5 (apparent tergites 2-4) from some angles of view.
