Distribution: North America, Europe, North Africa, Russia (Europe to Far East), Caucasus, Middle East, Iran, Kazakhstan, Central Asia, India, China, Korea, Japan. Lives in dry, sunny areas in sparse vegetation.

Female 5.5‒7 mm. Abdomen black with a white or yellow band on the front and white or yellow spots on top that sometimes can be merged. Carapace black. Legs and palps alternating black and reddish brown.

Male 3‒6 mm. Markings and colours almost identical to the female.
