Larvae feed inside the stems and roots of Solidago virgaurea, Artemisia campestris, Artemisia absinthium, Artemisia vulgaris, Artemisia sieversiana, Leucanthemum vulgare, Tanacetum vulgare, Glebionis segetum. P. nigricornis is a highly variable species; it is likely that the different coloration is affected by the food plant due to mimetism.
