This species is present in the western Palearctic realm from Europe to Mongolia. They can be found on woody plants, roadside edges, dry grasslands and forest edges. Adults feed on alder, hawthorn, blackthorn, birch, oak and willow and visit a variety of flowers. Females drop eggs onto the ground, these will picked up by ants and taken into their nests where the larvae will develop feeding upon detritus and the remains of insects brought back by the ants but they are also predatory, feeding upon the eggs and early stages of the ants. Usual host is the wood ant Formica rufa.

Adults can be found from April to the end of August. This species of beetle is common in the spring on the flowering blackberry bushes and consumes the fruit. They feed on the leaves of various plants, including: Dactylis glomerata, Pteridium aquilinum, hawthorn (Crataegus), blackthorn (Prunus), willow (Salix), birch (Betula) and oak (Quercus).

Paplitęs vakarų palearktiniame regione nuo šiaurės Ispanijos iki Mongolijos. Vabalai 7–11,5 mm dydžio, minta įvairių augalų lapais: paprastosios šunažolės (Dactylis glomerata), didžialapio šakio (Pteridium aquilinum), gudobelės (Crataegus), dygiosios slyvos (Prunus spinosa), gluosnio (Salix), beržo (Betula), ąžuolo (Quercus).
