It originates in Europe and has been introduced into northeastern parts of North America. Can be found in coniferous and mixed forests and pine nurseries, heathlands, coastal dunes, other sandy open areas. Body length 4-6 mm. Body oval, stocky. Snout short and wide. Strongly convex elytra. Elytra and pronotum covered with gray and brown scales arranged in longitudinal stripes. Flightless, shy.
