Adults are 4–4.5 mm. The body is brownish-black, and shining. The elytron have two red spots. Antenna and legs are red as well. Pronotum with distinct lateral punctures, smooth in the middle part. They live in coniferous and mixed forests and forest steppes.

A saproxylic insect, distributed from. Ipidia binotata larvae live under the bark of coniferous trees, where they hunt other insect larvae. Adults also visit flowers of some plants.
