Coremacera marginata · sraigžudė

  • Sieve-winged Snailkiller
  • Melierte Schneckenfliege
  • Rouwslakkendoder

This species occurs in most of Europe and in the Near East. These flies can be encountered in grasslands and woodlands, often in damp areas.

The adults are 7 to 10 mm long. The prominent eyes and the legs are reddish brown. The brown or yellowish antennae are forward-pointing, with a hairy 3rd segment and a whitish arista. The dark grey wings are mottled by many greyish spots and with a blackish border. The females lay their eggs on terrestrial snail shells or directly on slugs. After hatching, the maggots develop parasitically in the corresponding snails.
