Can be found in forests and other wooded areas, thickets, clearings. A yellow-gray fly that likes to sit head down on tree trunks. Predatory; larvae feed on insect larvae and pupae. Adult body length 9-11.5 mm. Transparent wings. Pterostigma bicolored, yellow in the middle. Body gray with distinct streaks on the scutum. Scutellum gray-black. Thighs of the first pair of legs yellow, usually with black rings.
