A large, wasp-like hoverfly from the tribe Milesiini. The body is black with yellow markings on the thorax and yellow bands on the abdomen. The scutum is black with a yellow, V-shaped marking in front of the scutellum. The scutellum has a distinct reddish tint, most prominent in the apical region. The legs are rusty-yellow, including the fore tarsi and tibiae. The eyes are yellowish-green with purplish-burgundy spots and streaks.
