Can be found in moist forests, banks of forest streams and other moist, usually shaded places. Body length 8-11 mm. Wing length 9-12 mm.
Slender, long-legged, long-tailed fly. Gray head. Orange thorax, distinctly raised, with a black, longitudinal stripe in the middle of the back. Dark spot on the scutellum. Yellow thighs with black knees. Wings with three dark spots in a species-specific arrangement and a subtle, dark highlight at the tips.
