It is more grey brown than other similar species, and has sparser thoracic hair (allowing the mesonotum to shine through). Similar to Colletes similis and Colletes fodiens, in which the first tergite is densely punctate – distinguishing these species in the field is sometimes impossible. Each of the mentioned species may be present in the photos.
