One of several Tenthredo species with yellow-banded, wasp-like females that have a brown blotch beyond the stigma of the forewings and a densely punctured head capsule. The black tegula brings it out with Tenthredo omissa but it can be distinguished by the dark brown and blackish hind tarsi (hind tarsi reddish-brown in Tenthredo omissa). In females, the hind tibiae are yellow at the base and reddish-brown at the tip but in the slimmer males, the hind tibiae are black on the apical half.
