It is native to the Palearctic including Europe. The larva develops on the roots of yarrow Achillea millefolium and Leucanthemum vulgare. The adults fly during the day and into the evening in May-June. On first appearance, this rather small species appears dull and uninspiring, but on closer inspection, it can be seen to have an attractive pattern of chestnut, metallic grey and black.
