It found in most of Europe except in the far north. To the east, the distribution area extends over Asia minor and the Caucasus, and then across the Palearctic to Siberia.
Gastrodes grossipes live on Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and other pines (Pinus), more rarely on other Pinaceae, such as European larch (Larix decidua). In contrast to the other species of the genus Gastrodes, the females lay their eggs in rows on the needles of their host trees. These bugs are also found under the bark, in cracks and in the cones of conifers. They mainly suck on the needles of the trees. The adults overwinter and mate in spring. The red-brown nymphs are observed from May to July. The adults of the new generation appear in August.
