The larvae bore into the stems of Mugwort (Artemisia) and is the cause of galls, usually rather weak swelling of the stem, dependent on the number of larvae (boring maggots) present. Confusion is possible with Campiglossa misella.
A gray fly with a yellow head and colored eyes. On the wings a pattern of circles and circles, characteristic of the species. In the middle of the scutum one pair of setae, and on the scutellum 4 setae of the same length.
