It is native to Europe, but has been introduced to North America, where it is considered an invasive species in some areas. Genus Lisimachia was formerly placed in the family Myrsinaceae before this was merged into the Primulaceae, subfamily Myrsinoideae.
Augalas 10-50 cm ilgio, su šliaužiančiu bei įsišaknijančiu stiebu. Žydi birželio-rugpjūčio mėn. Auga pakrantėse, pagrioviuose, drėgnose pievose. Lietuvoje auginamas, dekoratyvus.
