The rostrum is short and broad. The antennal scapes are inserted on the sides of the rostrum. The dorsal surface of the body is covered with rust-brown and gray scales, which form a pattern of light, weakly contrasting bands on the elytra, especially in the posterior part; these bands may become worn. The legs and antennae are rust-brown. The femora lack toothed projections. Body length 3.2-5.2 mm.
Habitat: forest wetlands, floodplain forests, marshes, alder swamps, peat bogs. Boreal-mountain species. Host plants: Alnus glutinosa, incana, viridis; Betula; Carpinus; Corylus; Fagus; Rosa; Rubus; Salix. Adults feed on leaves, larvae feed on roots.
