Habitat: Mainly coastal dunes, beaches (sometimes found under seaweed) and sandy banks of rivers and lakes. Body length 2.7-3.8 mm. Adults and larvae are predatory, they like to prey on insect larvae developing in carrion.
Body oval, strongly convex, black with intense blue, metallic sheen. Pronotum with smooth, triangular in outline field. Elytra densely punctate except for a pair of smooth fields called mirrors; dorsal grooves on elytra faintly visible. Legs and antennae black.
