Cymidae

  • Frøtæger
  • wzdęcielowate
  • starrskinnbaggar

The family is distributed worldwide, but is mainly found in the Eastern Hemisphere. The genus Cymus also occurs in the Western Hemisphere. Cymidae are granivores on monocotyledons, especially on sedges (Cyperaceae) and rushes (Juncaceae). They often stay on the spikelets of their food plants, where they are well camouflaged by their seed-like appearance. Polyphagy is probably widespread in the family, since many species have been found on a number of different food plants.
