The species can be found across the Palearctic from western Europe to Central Asia and China.

Eupithecia denotata inhabits sunny to shady forest edges, roadsides through forests and other forest sites with the larval host plant. The eggs are laid mostly on young blossoms. The caterpillar lives in/on the flowers and fruits, and feeds in early autumn also the seeds in the perforated capsules. There is one generation per year with adults on wing from the beginning of May to August. The larvae feed on Campanula species. Larvae can be found from August to October. It overwinters as a pupa.
