Gyvena pievų, laukų, pamiškių, pelkių žolėje. Lervos vystosi javų, viksvų, žolių stiebuose, varpose. Būdingas dydis 2,5 – 5 mm. Kai kurios rūšys yra javų ir pašarinių žolių kenkėjai.
